The Worship Network

It has been said that in order to understand the history, culture, and religion of Appalachia, you must first understand its music.  From their roots in England, Ireland, and Scotland, spirituals began their adaptation into the log-cabin churches built by pioneers and their descendants as they settled in the Appalachian Mountains.  Their faith was strong and diverse, and their music quickly became a reflection of those values.  They had the “faith of a mustard seed”, and they did move mountains!
